   Carvings From The Bone Yard

Every Stone Yard has a Bone Yard.
These carvings were all found to have defects, rendering them unusable at the intended monument or State-house. Free for the taking, I got these from the Bybee Stone Company and arranged them into a Geometric Stone Sculpture Garden.
Notice the snow dusted globe. Shadow angles indicate a sunrise or a sunset in winter. The elevation of the sun above the distant horizon is defined by the shadow's "terminator" angle on the Globe from true perpendicular to the earth. The bark mulch surrounding the turned balusters is covered with snow, while trees across the distant valley still show some green. Direction of view must be northerly or southerly. Can you determine which from clues in this picture?
